Udupi District's First Professional Theatre Troupe Rangataranga Kalavidaru – Kaup is more than just a theatre troupe—it is a vibrant cultural institution dedicated to enriching Tulu and Kannada theatre while promoting social values through the performing arts. Founded in 2007 in Kaup, Udupi District, Rangataranga Kalavidaru began its journey under the visionary leadership of veteran theatre personality, social worker, Kamala Prashasti awardee, and Ranga Kesari title holder Sri Leeladhar Shetty. Driven by his passion for theatre and dedication to society, the troupe has grown into one of the most respected and successful professional theatre companies in coastal Karnataka. Having acted in hundreds of stage productions and directed numerous theatre organizations, Sri Leeladhar Shetty laid a strong artistic foundation for Rangataranga. His vast experience, creative vision, and commitment to nurturing talent continue to inspire generations of theatre artists. During its formative years, the troupe flourished under the leadership of President Sri Prakash Karandadi and the efficient management of Sujith Shetty. With a talented ensemble of actors and technicians, Rangataranga quickly established a reputation for presenting high-quality productions. What began as a local initiative soon expanded into a widely admired professional theatre company, captivating audiences across Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, and several other districts of Karnataka. Every production combines entertainment with thought-provoking themes, highlighting family values, cultural traditions, social awareness, humanity, and the realities of everyday life. Some of its most celebrated productions include Tilake Tirgaye, Aaye Subage, Aapini Bethene, 36 Ath 63, Epla Lekka Paadodchi, Pira Bannaga, Ill Badk, Kutira, Dumbu Pira, Aa Nirel, Khandita Buddu Popuji, Nammamma Sharade, Indrali Junction, Poppa, Moke, Adhyakshere, Kuttiyannana Kutumba, and Shobaji. These productions have been performed thousands of times, receiving overwhelming appreciation from audiences and critics alike.
